Roberta Ruth “Tootie” Rider Kinney, 89, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Monday, December 7, 2020, at Park Place Elder Living Center in Mt. Pleasant.

Tootie was born on July 10, 1931, in Fairfield, Iowa the daughter of Robert Raymond & Ethel May (Simons) Rider. She was united in marriage to Wendell Allan Kinney on January 30, 1955, he preceded her in death on March 8, 2016. She graduated from Fairfield High School in 1949 and attended Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, Questers and a Ladies Church Circle. She was an avid bowler. She worked for Iris Realty in the office before she became a mother. She was a super fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Iowa Hawkeyes. She was a wonderful cook, avid reader, a lover of classic movies and was an amazing singer.

She is survived by her son, Robert (Jane) Kinney of Mt. Pleasant, one grand-daughter, Paige (Spencer) Newman of Mt. Pleasant, two great-grandchildren, Brantley and Piper Newman, honorary family members, Allison Sullivan and her children, Audrey and Rowan of Navarre, Florida, three nephews, Steven (Ellen) Thompson of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, Page (Rodie) Thompson of Orleans, Massachusetts and Charles (Angela) Thompson of Mahopac, New York, four great nephews, one great-niece, one great-great-nephew and one great-great-niece, two brothers-n-law, Wayne (Judy) Kinney of Cedar Rapids and Larry Kinney of Minnesota, along with many nephews and nieces on her late husband’s side of the family.

Tootie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, Joyce Thompson, her parents-in-law, five sisters-in-law and four brothers-in-laws.

Graveside Services will be held on Friday, December 11, 2020, at 9:00 a.m.at the Forest Home Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant with Reverend David Bracht-Wagner officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Murphy Funeral home in Mt. Pleasant. The family will not be present. Memorials may be directed to Lincoln or Harlan Schools for reading books for children in her memory.
