Richard “Rick” White, 69, of the Rome community passed away on Friday, March 17, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Rick was born on July 3, 1953, at the Henry County Memorial Hospital in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Leroy & Marcelline (Dixon) White. Following the death of his father, Marcelline married Robert “Buck” Messer. Rick graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1972. He was united in marriage to Janis Baity in 1973 and together they had a daughter, Carrie. Rick started his working career at Garretson Equipment and then worked at Benda-Looker for almost 40 years as a Service Technician (Maytag Repairman). He finished his working career at Jason Smith Plumbing and Heating. Rick was known for tearing things apart and fixing things earning him the nickname of “Tink”. He had a love for cats, steam engines, tractors and mowing the yard.

He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Janis, his daughter Carrie (Darin) Ensminger, his brother, Larry White, his sister, Gayle (David) Cornick, his step-brother, Jerry (Linda) Messer, his step-sister, Janet Baity, his sisters-in-law, Petra White, Jackie (Harold) Ackles and his brother-in-law, Jeff Tisor, along with many nieces and nephews.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, Tracey, his step-father, brother, Dean White, sister, Anita Tisor, brother-in-law Jerry Baity and a nephew, Levi Amrine and his wife’s parents.

A Celebration of Rick’s life will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Steve Pfeifer officiating. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Friday at the Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant where the family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. that evening. A memorial has been established in his memory. According to his wishes cremation has been entrusted to the care of Murphy Funeral Home and a private family graveside service will be held at a later date at the Grant Cemetery.
