Randel “Dean” White, 76, of the Rome community passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2020, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Dean was born on March 17, 1944, in Mt. Pleasant the son of LeRoy & Marcelline (Dixon) White. After the death of his father, Marcelline remarried Robert “Buck” Messer. Dean was united in marriage to Petra Ketelsen on April 17, 1964.

Dean joined the Army Reserves for six years. Dean started his working career with Jennings Dairy, Emerson Electric, Blue Bird Midwest and the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. He retired after 33 years working for the Department of Transportation as a blade operator/mechanic and then district mechanic. After his retirement he enjoyed other jobs in maintenance with Iowa Wesleyan College, Camp Golden Valley and Mt. Pleasant Golf and Country Club. Dean enjoyed spending time with the Trenton Angels Car Club, working around his home place, working on his jeep and helping his family. He enjoyed attending Midwest Old Threshers Reunion.

Dean is survived by his wife of 56 years, Petra, his children, Christine (Scott) Martin, Randy White (Gloria Fear), Michael White and Daniel (Christina) White, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Kaci Harris (Kaylee, Savannah, Legen), Brittany (Marcus) Davis, (Makinley, Brysen, Merrick), Drake (Emily) Martin, Bradley Martin, Riley Martin, Taylor White, Breana White, Blake White, his brothers and sisters, Larry White, Gayle (Dave) Cornick, Rick (Janis) White, Janet Baity and Jerry (Linda) Messer, along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife’s parents, step father, a sister, Anita Tisor, and a brother-in-law, Jerry Baity.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 21, 2020, at 4 p.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Chaplain Gordon Hawkins officiating. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Thursday at the Murphy Funeral Home. The family will not be present. Private family burial will be in the Grant Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Every Step Hospice or to the Great River Hospice House in his memory.
