Michael David Butcher, 75, of rural New London passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2020, at the Great River Medical center in West Burlington.

Mike was born on January 24, 1945, the son of Bert & Hazel (Kirkpatrick) Butcher Sr. He was united in marriage to Connie Lindeen o July 4, 1965, at the Swedesburg Lutheran Church. Mike was in the Army Reserves. Mike started his life in the construction business working for Melvin Smith, then later Allen Rich before starting his own business Butcher Construction. He enjoyed mushrooming, fishing, deer hunting, watching western movies and turkey camp. He also worked on the farm raising cattle and hay and was a NASCAR fan. Mike was a member of the Salem Congregational Church in Salem where he served as a trustee and was on the board. He loved his family.

He is survived by his wife Connie, his children, Matt (Julie) Butcher, and Sarah Butcher, all of New London, three grandchildren, Alayna, Anna and Dylan, his brother Steve Butcher of North Liberty, two sisters, Charlotte King of Mt. Pleasant and Pam Schinstock of Houghton, along with nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Susan Rae infancy, two brothers, Bert Butcher Jr., William Butcher and four sisters, Virginia Machholz-Marshall, Beverly Bartmann, Patricia Weller and Betty Maddix.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at the Salem Congregational Church with Pastor Aaron Helterbran officiating. Burial will follow in the Salem East Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Friday at the Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant where the family will be present from 5 to 7 that evening. Memorials may be directed to the Salem Congregational Church in his memory.
