Doris Dian Crocker, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at 72 years of age. She lived her entire life in Southeast Virginia and had just recently moved to South Texas.

Doris was born on December 19, 1949, at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C., the daughter of Warren B. and Thelma L. (Maxwell) Crocker. In her early life the family moved around as her father transferred Army bases. She lived in California and Alaska before the family settled in Newport News, Virginia.

Doris graduated from Ferguson High School in 1968 and received her bachelor’s in education from Longwood College in 1972. She obtained her teaching license and then taught in the Hampton School System for eleven years. She also earned a master’s degree from Old Dominion University in 1978. After leaving education, she worked in the hospitality industry until her retirement in 2020. Doris also worked in family businesses at Prestige Press, Inc and JEB Distributing. Doris worked at Busch Gardens in the summers while her nieces and nephews were little. She also enjoyed many volunteer opportunities. Her favorite boss was Graeme Bisdee. Summers in her youth were spent with family on Cape Cod and she loved to recount hilarious tales of adventures with her cousin Gail (Crocker) Linck and Carol Cozart. In later years, she enjoyed family time at Lake Gaston. Doris loved to travel and had special memories of her trips to Russia, Hawaii, and Alaska.

She is survived by her sister, Susan (Jack) Burnham of Lockridge, Iowa; her brother, Arthur (Laura) Crocker of Warrenton, Virginia; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Crocker of Norfolk, Virginia; and her beloved rescue dog Breeze. Doris loved time spent with her nieces and nephews: Cynthia (Ray) Gray, Jack E. Burnham Jr., Diana (Ron) Drish, Randy (Leslie) Crocker, Christina L. Crocker, Julie (Brett) Mather, A. Allen (Paige) Crocker Jr., Alexander Crocker, and Scott Crocker. She has 19 great nieces and nephews as well as 3 great greats. Doris loved Heather (Young) Greene and Ricky Young.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents and older brother, Warren B. Crocker Jr.

Graveside Services will be held on Monday, July 18, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Peninsula Memorial Park at 12750 Warwick Blvd, Newport News, Virginia. Doris will be buried next to her father. In lieu of flowers her family requests memorials be made to the Lockridge First Responders or the Lockridge Fire Department. The family request that memorials be mailed to Murphy Funeral Home at 408 North Broadway Street, Mount Pleasant, Iowa 52641.
