Beverly Ann Wood

Beverly Ann Wood

December 02, 1934 - August 13, 2017

Beverly Ann (Foss) Wood passed away on August 13, 2017 in Burlington, Iowa. A loving circle of peace and light surrounded her as she shed her earthly body.

She was born December 2, 1934 in Washington, Iowa to Orville Edward Foss and Alcidene (Spencer) Foss. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1952, and attended Southeastern Community College, leading to a degree as a medical assistant. Over the years she worked as a telephone operator in Mt. Pleasant, for Sylvania in Burlington and for Dr. Warren B. Scott for 13 years. As a young mother of five, then known as Beverly Murphy, worked as a cook at Diamond Lake Resort in Oregon. She held jobs briefly at Motorola and Goodyear, both in Mt. Pleasant.

Beverly married Alan Wood in 1980 and together they enjoyed 36 years of adventures before he passed in 2016. While becoming a blended family with eight children, five grown at the time, she rose to the challenge of each move the couple made to Lancaster, OH and St. Mary’s OH, always maintaining close ties with Mt. Pleasant where her parents and many family members remained. Eventually the couple retired and moved back to Mt. Pleasant in 1995 to be near family. Over their years together they shared many trips across the U.S. in their various RVs in order to remain connected with family and friends, as well as Japan, Europe and Alaska. Beverly pursued her passion and talent as an artist, creating dozens of priceless paintings for our family to enjoy, receiving many ribbons at fairs and shows for her pieces. She belonged to the three local art associations and the couple volunteered at the Mt. Pleasant Public Library in many capacities. She had a lifelong appreciation for astrology, energy healing and a variety of eastern philosophies and spirituality. She passed her love of her unique spiritual beliefs to many of her children and grandchildren. Spending time in her garden, painting, cooking, reading and finding joy in the beauty of the world made her happy, and being an amazing mom and grandmother was a gift she shared freely.

Survivors include her children by birth, Michael Murphy (Wallingford, VT), Steven Murphy (Mt. Pleasant, IA), Maryann Glass (Mt. Pleasant, IA), Sally Murphy (Jerome, AZ) and Alesia Murphy (Trinidad, CO); and her sons by marriage, Barry Wood (Portland, OR), Dennis Wood (San Diego, CA), Sean Wood (Cincinnati, OH), as well as their devoted spouses and partners. She cherished 9 grandchildren, Ryan, Luann, Alea, John, Mariah, Loren, Alexander, Charlie and Samuel. She adored her 9 great-grandchildren, Haley, Nikolai, Zoe, Simon, Audrey, Zane, Connor, Dimitri and Easton, and was recently blessed by the birth of her first great-great-grandchild, Leona Lu-Marie.

Preceding in death were her parents and her husband, as well as her brother, Delbert Dean Foss; and sister, Sandra Jeanne Foss.

Donations in her name can be made to: as they are continuing groundbreaking studies in the treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease.
